Bubblicious
Garage Headquarters: Mt. Pleasant, TN
Driver: Monica Booher
Mechanics: Crystal Bumpus, Libby Brager, Jessica Geisen, Lisa Kirkwood
Nuts and Bolts:
“This is how dirty girls get clean!” says Monica Booher tantalizingly. Her teammates Libby Brager, Crystal Bumpus, Jessica Geisen, and Lisa Kirkwood nod their agreement. When it comes to getting down and dirty, all five – and even alternate Alicia Portman – just can’t seem to help themselves. That’s the way it is when you’re into all aspects of the motocross scene, from racing to “dirt bike jousting.” They’re also into intriguing activities like burlesque, fire performance, aerial work, pond jumping, dancing, snowboarding, action sports photography and production, welding, nursing, and roller skating, not to mention notoriously filthy pastimes like media and fashion design, insurance work, studying, and calendar modeling… Needless to say, cleanup is a nightmare! But the adventurous crew believe they’ve found the perfect solution: a “Bubblicious” racer that they hope will produce a spotless record on the Red Bull Soapbox Race track.
Monica, the team’s driver, comments, “Our performance and creativity are going to be awesome! We’re splicing together a mixture of songs that illustrate how our bubbly cleaning pit crew gets us ready for the clean sweep!” Just meeting in one place at one time is an event in itself for these gals, who live in various states. (When asked how the six of them met in the first place, Monica winks, “Same boyfriend.”) So they’re happy to have an excuse to meet in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, to build their speedy scrubbing bubble. Co-pilot Crystal notes, “To us, this event means one heck of a good time building and competing in the race, and it’s a way to show how a team of girls can build a fun and zany soapbox car.” Monica adds with a laugh, “But we realize we’ve got a challenge with wind resistance – our racer is a bubble!”
