Loca Luna
Garage Headquarters: Atlanta, GA
Driver: Eric Kline
Mechanics: Brian Fasthoff, Marco Serrano, Chris Hagerty
Nuts and Bolts:
Loca Luna is Atlanta’s one-stop shop for award-winning tapas, tropical drinks including a “world-famous” mojito, and music to dance the night away – samba, salsa, and meringue. The stylish venue on Amsterdam Avenue offers its guests a variety of rooms to choose from (even an outdoor patio with a midtown skyline view). Somewhere in its cozy confines there must also be a top-secret workshop, because owners Brian Fasthoff (35) and Eric Kline (38), along with manager Marco Serrano (28) and bartender Chris Hagerty (26), are producing a soapbox racer that’s just as “loca” as the name of the restaurant would imply.
“We have a secret weapon, which will be disguised by decorations like flowers and palm trees,” says Brian of the tropically themed entry. “We joined this contest for the fun of it, but to be honest, it would be a challenge for us NOT to win.” That’s a tall statement from someone who is building a car with foliage in place of a spoiler, and such confidence (plus the fact that he signs the paychecks) is exactly what earned Brian the role of team captain. He won’t back down from his claim. Instead the team leader continues, “We think our soapbox will win, so be prepared!” Then, interested as always in customer service, he asks, “By the way, there’s valet parking at the finish line, right?”
