Fastest Toolbox in the World
Garage Headquarters: Washington Courthouse, OH
Driver: Chris Dodds
Mechanics: Mark Dodds, Michele Dodds, Tim Wells, Tammy Wells
Nuts and Bolts:
Chris Dodds loves racing. The veteran of Red Bull Soapbox St. Louis 2006 also loves power tools, but rarely gets the opportunity to combine the two passions. Except, of course, when he drag-races belt sanders. A few months before his team’s soapbox racer zoomed through St. Louis’ Forest Park back in 2006, Chris attended the Corunna, Michigan Fourth of July Celebration. Thanks to his tricked-out power tool, “The Lil’ Sander That Could,” Chris took home top honors. Now the industrial technology instructor has combined his interests into a racer that honors the trusty toolbox, which Chris describes as “a daily inspiration.”
Chris says he will construct the racer in his shop-class room, and that the vehicle will be “made with a refrigerator as a base and pimped up from there.” Keeping with the theme, the Fastest Toolbox in the World team will act out a skit involving the “Bob the Builder” character from the television series “Home Improvement.” Interestingly, Chris says that “a hip-hop mix” will also factor into the performance. If the soundtrack sounds like a peculiar addition, it’s only as it should be. When describing his teammates, Chris says, “We are all middle-aged and crazy.”
