“The inspiration for our racer is the tour bus from Brütal Legend,” says Sean Feeley, captain of Team Ironheade. If you’re unfamiliar with Brütal Legend, rest assured that you won’t be for long – it’s a highly anticipated videogame that features Jack Black as a roadie transported to a mythical ancient world of rock ‘n’ roll to fight evil. (Ironheade is the army of rockers he commands.) “The game is ridiculously awesome,” Sean assures us, “and our soapbox will be made of heavy metal.”

Sean and his teammates Andrew Cook, Luke Nalker, and Christine Phelan are living the dream of coming to California and finding success. They all met while studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design but now live in San Francisco and Oakland – working in the fields of technical direction, visual effects, user interface design, and character animation with companies including Pixar and game developer Double Fine Productions. Christine has been so involved in the development of Brütal Legend (and its outrageous modes of transportation) that the teammates decided to extend the concept to their race car, which they’re building at a co-op workshop space in nearby Menlo Park. Andrew, who won a trip to this year’s Super Bowl for his visual effects work, is taking the lead on the build, and Sean believes that the team’s dominance on race day is a foregone conclusion. “Awesome,” he states, “begets awesome.”
