Blue 82
Garage Headquarters: Albany, NY
Driver: Steve Nicholas
Mechanics: Michael Ripley, Jason Hayes, Dennis Rigosu, Mike Francolini
Nuts and Bolts:
“Last year, our Blue 82 won the Red Bull Mini Moto GP Championship,” says Michael Ripley of Albany, New York. Adding, “Actually, we didn't just win, we dominated,” Ripley goes on to state, “The Red Bull Soapbox Race is another chance at glory.” The name Blue 82 is already well known in the Albany area: it’s a popular lounge that features sophisticated nibbles and live music in addition to great drinks. Ripley co-owns the establishment with Jason Hayes, and they’ll be joined by colleagues and friends Mike Francolini, Steve Nicholas, and Dennis Rigosu in their attempt to win the October 13 contest at College Hill.
“The concept for our soapbox design is taken from a Russian MiG 17 jet fighter – we were inspired to do a remake of the Red Bull MiG that we saw while we were at the Red Bull MotoGP in Laguna Seca,” comments Ripley, who declares confidently that his team will thrill the crowd on Waterman Street with speed and courage. And if Team Blue 82 wins top honors in Providence? Well, then they’ll have a choice between a cash prize or an unforgettable NASCAR experience, including flights and accommodations. Ever the speed junkie, Ripley declares, “We’ll take the prize, not the cash.”
