“Red Bull Soapbox Race is a chance for us to show off our manly prowess and our engineering genius,” says John Kotsifas, captain of a team that will be coming to Providence from Forked River, New Jersey. What secret weapon will Kotsifas and his buddies Rob Felicito, Paul Martelloni, and Ron Sievers use to dominate the competition? “Our racer will be constructed of metal tubing, bike parts, and fiberglass,” Kotsifas explains. “Oh yeah… and some hair.”

Make that lots of hair; and lush, luxuriant lip hair at that. As Team Moustache Motors, these Garden State crazies are building a racer whose nose is, well, a nose – adorned with a bristling bumper that would make Tom Selleck proud. “It was inspired by all the men – and occasionally a few women – who continue to rock the ‘stache!” laughs Kotsifas, noting that the teammates will sport mullets to compliment their facial hair. The hirsute hopefuls, who work together as sales representatives when they’re not manscaping their racer, even plan on handing out fake moustaches to the crowd on College Hill. Those bold enough to wear them will be welcomed to a ‘Stache Bash 2007 party in the Moustache Motors “pits.” Kotsifas invites, “Come meet the team and join in some fun!”
