Red Bull Rasslin' Racers
Garage Headquarters: Terre Haute, IN
Driver: Scott Culp
Mechanics: Greg Otto, Mark Neukom, Gary Crowder
Nuts and Bolts:
Gary Crowder, Scott Culp, Mark Neukom, and Greg Otto have been members of the same pool team since 2002, when they competed for the National Team 8-Ball Title. “Even though we all come from different backgrounds and are in different stages of life – from single to empty nesters – we all share the same zeal for finding the party,” says Culp. “So when we saw an announcement for the Red Bull Soapbox Derby, we kicked Father Time in his huevos grandes and said, ‘Road trip!’”
The four Hoosiers, who make their home in the college town of Terre Haute, have come up with a distinctly un-academic theme for their entry: professional wrestling. Culp, the team’s driver, explains, “Who will be able to resist a usually stationary wrestling ring streaking down a historic New England street during a crisp fall afternoon? It screams of laughter.” Under the stage names of “Memphis Sweet Lips” (Culp), “Baron Von Blotto (Otto), “The Cardinal Sin” (Neukom), and “Crowman” (Crowder), they’ll be throwing down every outrageous stunt they can think of to woo the spectators. And although the Rasslin’ Racers have never built a soapbox car before, their vehicle isn’t their primary concern. “Our biggest challenge,” Culp chuckles, “will be fitting into our rasslin’ tights!”
