Team Adrenaline
Garage Headquarters: Brooklyn, NY
Driver: Kevin Levenzon
Mechanics: Gene Karlinsky, Alex Shalshih
Nuts and Bolts:
The members of Team Adrenaline have a very good reason for getting involved in Red Bull Soapbox Race. It isn’t so much about winning (though that would be nice) or showing off in front of a crowd (although they will). It has more to do with forgetting about their high-stress jobs for a while. Gene Karlinsky (28), Kevin Levenzon (27), and Alex Shalshin (31) got to be friends while working together in the emergency room of a New York City hospital. Karlinsky is an X-ray/CAT scan technologist, while Levenzon is a registered nurse and Shalshin is a physician. These adrenaline junkies realize that when you work as hard as they do, you have to play hard, too.
“The concept of a soapbox race means being unique and original. It reminds us of being kids and creating things by ourselves. It means fun!” says Levenzon, who will drive a racer inspired by on-the-job experience. He goes on to describe, “Our skit is going to involve me, with ‘adrenaline’ written all over my body, being pulled out of a huge medicine bag and loaded into a syringe-shaped soapbox, all played to Bon Jovi’s ‘Bad Medicine.’” Then, ultimately, his mission will be to get to the finish line – stat!
