Team SuperBird

Garage Headquarters: Burlington, VT

Driver: Chris Doyle

Mechanics: Jeremy Kent, Ryan Larson, Evan Abraham

Nuts and Bolts:

Many teams will race down the course on Waterman Street, but only one team – Superbird – intends to shred it. Teammates Euan Abraham, Chris Doyle, Ryan Larson, and Jeremy Kent work together at Burton Snowboards, and among them, they've snowboarded for a century. (Give or take.)

These are men who unconsciously stand sideways. Who don't think twice about sleeping on the floor of an overbooked resort hotel. Who hit the slopes and wreck themselves day in and day out for the sake of progression. They've always been dedicated to building the best snowboarding equipment on the planet, so why not the best soapbox racer, too? Led by Larson and Doyle, the slightly mad scientists who are the "R" and "D" of research and development, the crew is constructing a racer that was initially inspired by, of all things, the classic 1970 Plymouth Superbird. However, the materials and construction techniques are informed by board sports culture – snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding. Although the teammates were baffled by the concept of presenting a skit before the race – "Is this a summer camp?" one queried – they're prepared to nut up and do whatever it takes. "We come to win in style," says Kent. "Speed and style. Speedy style. Stylish speed…And glory."
