Nuts and Bolts:

Gary Deslaurier, Greg Stiener, and Chris Zingg have been friends since their kids were in nursery school (some fifteen years ago) and the one thing they’re unanimously passionate about besides those kids is music. Zingg owns a music store; and while Deslaurier is a graphic designer and Stiener is a child psychologist, they’ve both got strong opinions about their favorite hobby. A while back, a likeminded citizen of Barrington, Rhode Island, scientist David Cousins, also got sucked into the musical maelstrom of the friendship. And now the foursome is going to have to come to agreement on which type of music to listen to as they work to build a gravity-powered vehicle, because they’ve been selected as contenders for the Red Bull Soapbox Race in Providence.

At least deciding on their racecar design was easy. “Because we're all into music, and Chris, David, and I play guitar, we thought that a guitar-shaped vehicle would reflect the team’s interest, while also making for a great looking racer,” says Deslaurier, the team’s driver. “The car will be made from wood, metal, plastic, and rubber parts, and we're hoping that it'll be so fast that the downturn on the neck will act as a spoiler to keep it grounded!”
