Nuts and Bolts:

“One of Providence's many nicknames is the Renaissance City, so we started thinking about old-school Renaissance things like jokers, kings, and knights – and the clear choice was a jousting knight atop a trusty red bull,” says Katrina Weiss, driver for the Winged Knights racer. Lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper, the 23-year-old continues, “If we were to tell what it was made of, we would be unveiling valuable secrets.”

Katrina, her friend and contemporary Adam Bean, and her parents Nancy and Mitchell Weiss are bridging the generation gap to come up with what they hope will be a phenomenal entry. Among them, they’ve got an impressive combination of talents. Mitchell is a robot designer and engineer who holds numerous patents; Nancy, a school committee vice chairman and expert in bobbin lace making, has both organizational and decorative skills; Adam, while finishing up a degree at Middlesex College, is also a former Boy Scout and current police and fire dispatcher (prepared for any situation); and Katrina is an All-American archer and superb athlete who just happens to work in production control. Katrina affirms that every one of them is raring to go, stating, “We’re very excited to be participating in this event and cannot wait until race day!”
