First Step - select a team:

The Breakfast Club

Garage Headquarters: San Francisco, CA

Driver: Chris Pfeifer

Mechanics: Willy Reising, Melanie Cole, Rudy Randolph, Amanda Cole, Mike Kellogg

Nuts and Bolts:

Team captain Chris Pfeifer lays out the basic premise of his entry: “Ally Sheedy plays the hash browns and, naturally, Molly Ringwald is the toast,” he begins. “Of course, Judd Nelson is the egg, and Emilio Estevez absolutely sizzles in the role of the bacon. Those two will drive the frying pan down the course.” If any of this makes sense, you must have been a fan of John Hughes’ coming-of-age classic “The Breakfast Club.” And Team Breakfast Club hopes you’ll come to Dolores Park to cheer them on at the Red Bull Soapbox Race.

Besides Chris, the cast of this rolling parody includes Amanda Cole, Melanie Cole, Mike Kellogg, Rudy Randolph, and Willy Reising, who will be playing the beloved brat pack actors as if the actors, in turn, were portraying breakfast food. The theme may be complicated, but it’s fitting for a group of twenty-something friends who – although they now work in fields ranging from engineering to sales – have known each other since high school. Although his team has never competed in a soapbox contest, Chris claims that they’ve trained for a downhill race once before, only that one involved rolling cheese down a grassy slope in England. There’s no telling if they’re serious; but if they make a go of their soapbox racer, on October 18 breakfast may be the most important wheels of the day.
