First Step - select a team:

The Green Team

Garage Headquarters: San Jose, CA

Driver: Andreas Sandberg

Mechanics: Amanda Webb, Bruce Morris, Ben Phillips

Nuts and Bolts:

“Our racer is a Waste Allocation Load-Lifter Earth Class,” says Andreas Sandberg, captain of The Green Team. With a grin, he adds, “Most people will recognize it as WALL-E.” Andreas and his teammates Bruce Morris, Ben Phillips, and Amanda Webb have a sure-fire crowd pleaser in their car, cleverly designed to look like the insanely popular cinematic robot created by the Bay Area’s own Pixar Animation Studios.

WALL-E’s pro-environment message is certainly a good match for a race that consumes no natural resources to get vehicles across the finish line. Natural resourcefulness, however, is required in abundance. Fortunately, The Green Team’s South Bay crew members are nothing like the sluggish, coddled humans depicted in the movie. They’ve been using every spare minute to craft their adorable vehicle, designed to reach dimensions of five feet high and five feet wide for maximum spectator visibility. And while contest rules prohibit the teammates from using fire-extinguisher propulsion (darn it), on the steep Dolores Street hill they’ll have one advantage that the original WALL-E lacked in the empty reaches of space: gravity. The group hopes that their robot racer will be fast, and that spectators will respond to their entry with the same enthusiasm that audiences displayed when they flocked to theatres. After all, WALL-E wouldn’t be WALL-E without a happy ending.
